Kidnapped woman being held by pirates

A British woman who was kidnapped in Kenya a week ago is apparently being held by pirates in central Somalia.

Judith Tebbutt, 56, was taken when unidentified gunmen raided an exclusive safari resort last Sunday, shooting dead her husband, publishing executive David Tebbutt, 58.

A Somali tribal elder is quoted by the Reuters news agency as saying a convoy of pirates arrived in his region on Saturday night before, with Mrs Tebbutt.

''We are very disappointed, we do not want our area to be a place for keeping kidnapped innocent people,'' said Abdullahi Ali Abukar on Sunday.

"I am among the ones guarding her ... Although you can understand the fatigue from her face, she is healthy," one of the gang guarding Mrs Tebbutt said.
