Yemen defence minister Mohammad Nasser Ahmad Ali has survived a suicide attack in the southern city of Aden.
Security officials say a suicide bomber drove a car packed with explosives into the minister's convoy while other attackers on motorbikes threw hand grenades.
At least three soldiers were killed and nine others hurt, the BBC reports.
The country's president, Ali Abdullah Saleh, has been facing popular protests as well as an armed uprising against his rule.
Mr Saleh, who survived an attack in June, returned to Yemen on Friday.
It was not immediately clear who carried out Tuesday's attack.
