More aftershocks hit Samoa

10:10 pm on 20 October 2009

Samoa has been hit by another strong aftershock, the third in the past 24 hours.

Two of the quakes have been measured at magnitude 6.1 on the Richter scale, the other was slightly weaker.

A Radio New Zealand International correspondent in Apia says the latest shake about midday on Monday led to a short delay in the sitting of parliament:

He said there was a lot of panic, but no tsunami warnings were issued.

Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi told parliament people should not wait for any warning after a major earthquake and it was better for them to leave their houses and run to the higher ground.
