Australia flight delays possible due to industrial action

7:58 am on 30 September 2011

Australian airline Qantas is warning of delays for passengers today as baggage handlers and engineers take industrial action over pay and conditions.

Baggage handlers walk off the job for an hour across the country on Friday morning and engineers will stop work in Melbourne in the evening, the ABC reports.

Qantas expects 40 flights to be delayed by an hour and two flights to be cancelled.

The airline said Friday was one of its busiest days of the year because of the lead-up to the NRL and AFL grand finals, and the school holidays.

There were no major disruptions on Thursday morning after customs and quarantine staff walked off the job for an hour nationally.
