Rewards possible for good polygamists

8:09 am on 2 October 2011

A state in Malaysia is considering ways to reward good Muslim men who declare their polygamous marriages.

Authorities in the state of Kelantan believe many Muslim husbands secretly marry new wives, which causes marital conflict when they bring them home.

The BBC reports polygamy is legal in Malaysia, but only Muslim men are allowed to practice it. They can take up to four wives, but need the consent of all their wives and must show they can support them.

Now cash rewards are being considered to reward those with good marriages.
