America's Cup holder to appeal venue ruling

A legal wrangle is continuing over where sailing's America's Cup regatta should be held in February, with the Swiss defenders of the trophy appealing the latest court ruling.

Alinghi are seeking a fast-track appeal after a New York judge ruled that they could not stage the cup regatta in the port of Ras-Al-Kaimah in the United Arab Emirates.

The court ruled that the Cup's Deed of Gift required regattas in that part of the year to be held in the southern hemisphere, although Valencia in Spain was also allowed as both contenders had previously agreed on it.

San Francisco's BMW Oracle had object to the United Arab Emirates venue because of its proximity to Iranian waters, and is urging Switzerland's Alinghi to move their multi-hull clash to Spain.
