DNA tests in France have confirmed human remains found in a fire in French Polynesia are from a German yachtsman, Stefan Ramin, who went missing nearly two weeks ago.

A Tahitian newspaper, La Depeche de Tahiti, says the Paris tests confirms the findings by forensic experts in Tahiti.

The remains were found in ashes in a remote valley on Nuku Hiva where 20 police officers have been searching for Mr Ramin and a local guide.

Mr Ramin's wife, who raised the alarm, told police the guide assaulted her.
