Quick burial expected for Gaddafi

Libyan officials are making preparations for the burial of the body of deposed leader Muammar Gaddafi in a quick Islamic service.

Colonel Gaddafi was killed on Thursday after being captured by National Transitional Council fighters in his home town of Sirte, ending his 42-year grip on power.

Gaddafi's body is in Misrata, a city which has seen some of the worst fighting in Libya since the war began in February this year, the ABC reports.

It was taken there by ambulance after he was shot in the head and legs at Sirte, further east, but he reportedly died before he made it to hospital.

The 69-year-old's body was still on display on Friday, bloodied and half naked, but a short and even secret burial is expected later in the day in line with Islamic tradition.
