8:25 am on 2 November 2011

Police in Fiji have released a New Zealand man who was being held in relation to an investigation of an alleged conspiracy to create instability.

Jagath Karunaratne, who is working in Fiji, was charged two weeks ago with writing seditious comments in public places.

Four others were also charged.

Mr Karunaratne was granted bail then re-arrested along with another man in relation to claims of a plot to burn down Suva.

Fiji's Assistant Commissioner of Police Henry Brown says Mr Karunaratne has been released without any further charges but the investigation is ongoing.
