Qantas chief to be questioned by inquiry

Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce is to be questioned by members of the Australian Senate in Canberra on Friday.

Mr Joyce announced the grounding of the entire Qantas fleet late on Saturday afternoon in response to continuing strikes by three unions, which he earlier said were costing the airline $A15 million per day.

Operations returned to normal on Tuesday after Fair Work Australia on Monday ordered a stop to all industrial action by the airline and the unions.

The ABC reports the unions involved in the dispute will also appear before the Senate committee.

Qantas says Qantas international lost $A216 million in the past year.
