A court in France has fined EDF, an energy company, 1.5 million euros and sent two of its employees to prison for spying on Greenpeace campaigners.

A court in Nanterre, near Paris, found the company employed a security firm to spy on Greenpeace as it campaigned against new nuclear reactors in France.

The BBC reports Greenpeace was awarded 500,000 euros in damages.
