Quake aid protest put down

Riot police in Turkey fired tear gas and used batons to disperse protesters angry at state relief efforts after another earthquake killed at least 12 people in the city of Van. It was the second quake in three weeks.

The magnitude 5.7 earthquake brought misery to the region where more than 600 people died in a magnittude 7.2 earthquake on 23 October

Thousands of families are living in makeshift camps as temperatures fall to freezing with the onset of winter.

The government says there are enough tents for anyone who needs them.

The latest earthquake occurred 16km south of Van at 9.23pm on Wednesday.

About 20,000 people were killed by two earthquakes in western Turkey in 1999.
