Groser not keen on kick-start for Doha

New Zealand Trade Minister Tim Groser is talking down attempts by Australia to kick-start world trade negotiations.

The Doha round of world trade talks has been stalled since 2008 due to bickering over agricultural and industrial trade barriers.

At an APEC meeeting in Honolulu, Australian trade minister Craig Emerson has been pushing for a scaled-back deal on areas where there is agreement such as streamlining customs procedures.

But Mr Groser is ambivalent, saying a smaller agreement would not deal with the substance of any of the key New Zealand or Australian interests that remain outstanding.
