World No 1 golfer Tiger Woods has accepted full responsibility for the car crash that took place outside his Florida home but says he wants to keep the details private.

Woods hit a fire hydrant and tree as he pulled his Cadillac Escalade out of the driveway of his house about 2.25am local time on Friday, Reuters reports.

The 33-year-old was taken to hospital suffering facial cuts and bruises and released.

On his official website, Woods says the situation was his fault and is embarrassing to himself and his family. He says it is a private matter, and he wants to keep it that way.

Woods, who has been married for five years and has two young children, has recently been the subject of tabloid allegations about his private life.

However, on his website Woods says that the many false, unfounded and malicious rumors that are circulating about him and his family are irresponsible.
