Costello tells fans to buy Louis Armstrong

Elvis Costello has told fans not to buy a limited edition box set of his music when it goes on sale next month, recommending they purchase some Louis Armstrong instead.

Costello, 57, said in an official blog post that the online retail price of £212.99 ($US202.66) for The Return Of The Spectacular Spinning Songbook "appears to be either a misprint or a satire''.

Instead, he suggested Ambassador Of Jazz: 10 re-mastered albums by Louis Armstrong.

The music, he added, was vastly superior and cost less than $US150.

Costello's package is available from 6 December. He pointed out it would be available in the New Year at more affordable prices and took the opportunity to plug live appearances in the United States and Europe next year.
