Nursing home fire toll now 11

The death toll from a fatal fire at a western Sydney nursing home, continues to rise. There was an 11th fatality on Tuesday.

Fire ripped through the Quakers Hill Nursing Home on 18 November.

An woman, 83, died in the burns unit of Royal North Shore Hospital on Tuesday from injuries sustained in the blaze.

The bodies of three elderly residents were found immediately after the fire was put out. Another eight have now died in hospitals from burns and smoke inhalation.

The ABC reports several more residents are still in hospital.

A registered nurse working at the home, Roger Dean, 35, faces eight charges of murder.

He is being held in custody until his next court date in February. Police have not ruled out further charges.

Detectives say the pre-dawn fire began in two separate parts of the home.
