The Irish government announced a new round of spending cuts worth 2.2 billion euros on Monday.

Health, education and welfare budgets will all be reduced and thousands of job cuts are expected.

Additional measures, including tax rises, will be detailed on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Enda Kenny made a televised address to the nation late on Sunday to prepare people for bad news. It was the first such address in 25 years.
