Yemeni forces kill 30 militants

Security officials in Yemen say they've killed more than 30 al Qaeda militants in an air raid in Chabwa province, east of the capital Sana'a.

The Yemeni authorities say the militants were planning attacks on Yemeni and foreign oil targets.

Among those believed killed was Anwar al Awlaki, whom United States officials linked to the gunman who killed 13 people at the Fort Hood army base in Texas on 5 November.

The BBC reports that al-Qaeda has carried out frequent attacks in Yemen in recent months, and the Saudi government has recently expressed its concern about the resurgence of the movement in the region.
