Journalist killed in Dagestan

The founder of an independent newspaper in the Dagestan republic has been shot dead, in the latest in a series of killings of Russian journalists.

Gadzhimurat Kamalov was shot eight times as he left his office in the capital.

The ABC reports he was the founder of a newspaper that was well regarded for its independence and investigations of government corruption.

In the last two decades, more than 70 journalists have been murdered in Russia. Dagestan is the most dangerous republic.
