Australian cricket captain Michael Clarke has posted the highest test score ever at the Sydney Cricket Ground and gone on to score a triple century in the second test against India.
At lunch on Thursday he was 293 not out - breaking the previous record for the SGC of 287 set by England's Reginald Foster in his test debut at the ground in 1903.
When play resumed, Clarke continued to add runs, becoming only the sixth Australian batsman in test history to score a triple century.
Reuters reports that Clarke whipped off his helmet to acknowledge a standing ovation from the crowd when he reached the 300 mark.
Clarke was 329 not out when Australia declared at 659 for four - the highest individual score in a test between Australia and India.
West Indian Brian Lara holds the record for the highest individual score in Test cricket, making 400 not out against England in 2004.
After Australia declared, India went in to bat for their second innings and at close of play on day three were 114 for two.
