Flash flood warning issued for Fiji

7:48 pm on 5 January 2012

The weather office in Nadi has issued a flash flood warning for the whole of Fiji.

Duty forecaster Samisoni Waqavakatoga says it has been raining across the country since Wednesday night and the rain is expected to intensify over the next 48 hours.

He says low-lying areas will be prone to flash flooding at high tide which, for the next couple of days, is at 8am and 8pm.

Mr Waqavakatoga says the trough of low pressure that has brought the persistent rain should move away from Fiji by Sunday.
