Death of photo-journalist

Magnum photo agency said on Thursday that American photo-journalist Eve Arnold has died in London.

Arnold , 99, was best known for intimate shots of Marilyn Monroe during a collaboration which lasted 10 years. Arnold also photographed Queen Elizabeth, Jacqueline Kennedy and Malcolm X.

Born in Philadelphia, her first story documented fashion shows in the 1950s in Harlem, New York, before moving to London in 1962.

Arnold worked at publications such as the Sunday Times and captured life in the Arab world in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

She was widely exhibited and received numerous prizes, including the lifetime achievement award from the American Society of Magazine Photographers.
