Gunmen have killed at least six people in an attack on a church in the north-east of Nigeria.

Pastor Johnson Jauro said the killings took place at the Deeper Life Church in Gombe, capital of Gombe state.

He said his wife was among the dead. Ten other people were wounded.

A state of emergency was declared in parts of the country by President Goodluck Jonathan on 31 December after a series of attacks on churches by the Boko Haram group.

Dozens of people were killed on Christmas Day in the bombing of a church in the capital Abuja.

Boko Haram wants to impose Sharia law across Nigeria.
