Iranians rescued from pirates by US Navy

The US Navy has rescued 13 Iranian hostages being held by pirates in the Arabian Sea.

The Pentagon says they were rescued on Thursday after a distress call was received from the Al Molai, an Iranian fishing vessel which was taken by pirates about 40-45 days ago.

The pirates were apparently using the vessel as a "mother ship" for their operations.

The BBC reports 15 suspects were detained and are being held by the US Navy.

The hostages are now on their way back home. The Navy said they had thanked the crew of the USS Kidd.

Iranian officials earlier warned the United States to keep the carrier group involved out of the Gulf.
