Cheap tickets planned for RWC in England

Prices for the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England may be as low as £10 - about $NZ19.

The BBC is quoting tournament chief executive Paul Vaughan as saying low prices will be necessary to fill northern football venues such as Old Trafford and Anfield.

Mr Vaughan says the tournament must be affordable and accessible to everyone.

The quoted prices suggest a different pattern of charges from New Zealand, where tickets for the Rugby World Cup held last year cost hundreds of dollars for high stakes games.

The International Rugby Board carries no details of ticket prices in its latest press release, but does say the recipe for success is not to replicate New Zealand, but to ensure that the Rugby World Cup reaches out to communities where the game is not yet popular.
