Brisbane has marked the first anniversary of the floods that brought the city to a standstill last year.
The swollen Brisbane River broke its banks on 13 January. More than 14,000 homes and businesses were flooded.
The ABC reports most people are now back in their homes or have rebuilt their businesses but the recovery process continues for others.
Then-Mayor Campbell Newman says it is great to see the city is recovering.
''We can all take great pride in what was achieved in the immediate aftermath of the flood and the way that the 'mud army' came together,'' he said.
"The volunteers turned out and that we cleaned up Brisbane and put it back on its feet .... we can hold our heads high forever after this. ''
