Another whaling confrontation at sea

8:20 pm on 22 January 2012

There has been another confrontation in the Southern Ocean between the Sea Shepherd group, and a Japanese whaling ship.

Japan's fisheries agency says more than 40 bottles of paint and rotten butter was thrown at the whalers on board the Shonan Maru Two by protesters on board the Steve Irwin.

Steve Irwin captain Paul Watson says the whalers responded by throwing sticks and using tear gas.

The ABC reports no-one was injured in the most recent incident, but Mr Watson say three of his crew have suffered minor injuries in recent days.

Three members of another anti-whaling group were handed over to Australian authorities last week after boarding a Japanese vessel at sea.
