Fourteen Chinese construction workers are reported to have been freed by Sudanese troops two days after they were kidnapped by militants.

Officials quoted by Sudanese media say the military had mounted an operation to liberate the workers in South Kordofan, which borders the newly-independent South Sudan.

Another 15 are still missing and the BBC says the search for them is continuing.

The Chinese workers were involved in constructing a road when they were abducted on Saturday.
