Strong shallow quake near Vanuatu

A strong and shallow earthquake has struck in the Pacific Ocean off Vanuatu early on Friday.

The US Geological Survey says the 6.9-magnitude quake occurred at 12.34am. It was centered 122km west of Vanuatu's capital Port-Vila at a depth of 10km.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says there is no threat of a destructive tsunami.
