Bomber loses legs in Bangkok

8:31 am on 15 February 2012

An Iranian man was seriously wounded in Thailand on Tuesday when a bomb he was carrying exploded and blew off one of his legs.

A short time earlier, there was an explosion in a house the man was renting in central Bangkok.

It is reported the man then threw a bomb in front of a taxi when it refused to pick him up.

When police tried to arrest him, the man attempted to throw another bomb at them.

It went off before he could do so, blowing one of his legs off. His other leg had to be amputated.

Doctors say three other people were wounded.

Police say other explosives have been found at the house.

Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak has accused Iran of being behind the incident.

Israeli embassy staff were targeted by bombers in India and Georgia on Monday.

Last month, the US embassy warned of possible attacks in Bangkok, perhaps against Israeli and American interests.
