Two New Zealanders have been arrested on a cruise ship in a cocaine bust in San Francisco.

US Customs and Border Protection says Tony Wilkinson and Kirstie Harris were arrested when 5kg of the drug was found hidden in a suitcase in their cabin.

The two were arrested late January on board a cruise ship which had arrived from Curacao in the Caribbean.

An Australian national Ahmed Rachid was arrested in a separate cabin with 7kg of cocaine.

The San Francisco Chronicle says authorities believe Mr Rachid was working with Mr Wilkinson and Ms Harris to smuggle the drugs into the United States.
