New tabloid launching to replace News of the World

The newspaper being launched in Britain to replace the now defunct News of the World is to go on sale this weekend.

News of the World closed last July amid evidence of widespread phone hacking by some of its journalists.

The tabloid that will take its place will be called The Sun on Sunday.

News Corporation boss Rupert Murdoch announced the launch while in Britain addressing a fresh scandal at another of his newspapers, The Sun, over alleged bribes to police and public officials.

An email to staff says the media mogul will stay in London for the launch, which is being seen as a move to revamp the company's operations in the United Kingdom.

The memo from News International chief executive Tom Mugridge says News Corporation is making clear its determination to sort out what went wrong in the past by fundamentally changing how it operates as a business.
