An anonymous donor has given £1.5 million to the Globe theatre in London.

The money will go towards £7 million needed to build an indoor Jacobean theatre.

The BBC reports the donor has also pledged to double the donation, providing the Globe manages to raise £1.5 million by itself.

Work is scheduled to start in October following the Globe's summer season.

It will have two tiers of galleried seating and a pit seating area for just over 300 people in total. It is intended to be ready to open from November 2013.
