Norwegian yacht ends unauthorised Antarctic voyage

A Norwegian yacht with a New Zealander on board is ending its unauthorised Antarctic voyage and heading north, possibly to South America.

Norwegians Jarle Andhoy and Samuel Massie, New Zealander Busby Noble, and a Russian skipper, are aboard the yacht Nilaya in McMurdo Sound.

Mr Andhoy has been searching for his missing sailboat the Berserk which sank on an expedition a year ago with the loss of three lives.

A Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet is reporting that he has called his lawyer to say his search had been completed.

But the crew is not sailing to New Zealand, believing they will face prosecution here for not getting permission to sail to Antarctica.
