International festival bookers met promising local acts during the Sounds Aotearoa 2013 showcase held in Auckland in March. It was two days of agents meet musos, bookers meet songwriters... and before you know it a good number of our most promising new voices are headed off to far-flung corners of the globe to wow blinking concert goers from Korea to Denmark. Maybe. Nick Atkinson spoke first to Dylan Pellet, the business development manager for Independent Music New Zealand, who began by explaining what these international delegates are looking for from our local talent. He also catches up with emerging artist Estere, and Jens Folmer Jepsen from the Aarhus Festival in Denmark, who was visiting New Zealand to discover new talent at Sounds Aotearoa.
