Ihimaera’s fourth novel is a story that delights listeners of all ages. The whale rider was Kahuita Te Rangi. Ancestor of the people of Te Tai Rawhiti, he travelled from Hawaiki, the Place of the Ancients, to the East Coast of New Zealand. The story is set in Whangara where Paikea is the tipuna ancestor.
