The book was abridged for radio by Michael King himself just before his untimely death in 2004 and by Elizabeth Alley; it is narrated by one of New Zealand 's most accomplished actors, George Henare. The radio series contains compelling archive material from RNZ’s archives - such as Michael Joseph Savage's 1939 radio address to the nation shortly after we declared war on Germany. The radio series is presented again in a series of 10 CDs.
