After 29 years New Zealand Musician Magazine's publishers have announced that the April/May issue will be the magazine's last regular print edition.

All future content will be published exclusively to New Zealand Musician Magazine's (NZM) website, nzmusician.co.nz.

The publication's long-time editor Richard Thorne says, "While obviously very saddened to be saying goodbye to the print version of NZM after nearly three decades we intend to continue publishing a similar range of content online, as well as providing a significantly enhanced digital menu.”

Thorne says NZM has developed a new digital platform that will allow them to create a range of new and exciting digital content.

NZM has left the door open for possible future 'special' issues.

NZ Musician started in 1988. Its initial purpose was to allow importers and retailers of musical instruments and gear to promote their products.

Thorne says, “Among a number of points of difference from other music mags, both local and international, NZ Musician aimed to first engage with music makers themselves, promoting and publicising new Kiwi music through them."

NZM says their longevity can likely be attributed to it ‘sticking to its knitting’ and maintaining a broadly supportive approach towards those who make and perform music from NZ.
