Germans in Maoriland? (2) Classical Musicians

There were significant numbers of Germans working as musicians and living here in New Zealand during the 19th century until 1914. Samantha Owens introduces us to a handful of these German immigrants who were indeed contributing to this country's youthful classical music scene.

Classical Musicians was presented by Samantha Owens and Shelley Wilkinson. You also heard the voices of Peter Sledemere and Paul Downie. It was produced for Radio New Zealand Concert by Shelley, the early 78 recordings of various musicians were either kindly loaned by Rod Cornelius, Paul Downie and Douglas Mews and Douglas was also our pianist for Paul Sonderhof’s scores.
