History through the Violin - Brahms

As we listen to pieces of violin music, composed between the early 1700s and the early 1900s, we recognize changing forms and styles. But we seldom relate these changes to the wider changes happening in European culture. In this series John Drummond treats pieces of violin music as windows into the time of their composition, relating them to contemporary values, ideas and tastes.
