Today in Global Sounds we’ve music from Mongolian folk band Hanggai, and the accordion ensemble Samurai.

HanggaiHe Who Travels Far – Hanggai

Describing their style as ‘Chinagrass’, Hanggai perform their own adaptations of traditional songs from the Mongolian grasslands. The band’s made up of young musicians from Beijing and Inner Mongolia, and was formed after leader Ilchi (front man for a punk band in an earlier life) was inspired by traditional overtone singing (World Connection 943086)
