The Borodin Quartet in recital in Auckland
Formed in 1945 the Borodin Quartet holds an important core of Russian musical DNA. And Russian works provide the core of this recital for Chamber Music New Zealand.

All the members of the Borodin Quartet trained at the Moscow Conservatory and the group has now gone through three incarnations. The linking force was cellist Valentin Berlinsky, who was a member of the quartet for 62 years before his retirement in 2007.
The current incarnation of the quartet is, in the scheme of things, relatively new: first violin Ruben Aharonian and violist Igor Naidin joined in 1996, while cellist Vladimir Balshin took over from Berlinsky in 2007. Second violin Sergei Lomovsky is the neewest member, arriving in 2011.
In this concert they perform music by Haydn, Shostakovich, Wolf, and Tchaikovsky.
