BARTÓK: Piano Concerto No 3

This three-movement concerto was Bartók's 'last will and testament' composed in 1945. He was within 17 bars of finishing the full orchestral score when he was taken to hospital and died four days later. Stylistically it moves to a simpler, more lyrical tone, leaving behind some of the percussive sounds and knotty harmonies of his earlier works.

Recorded 15 October 2016 at the Michael Fowler Centre, Wellington by RNZ Concert.

Producer: David McCaw

Engineer: Graham Kennedy
