German cellist Daniel Müller-Schott joins the NZSO to perform Schumann's lyrical cello concerto. It was composed in a period of just two weeks in October 1850, soon after the Schumann family had moved to Düsseldorf.
Clara Schumann thought highly of her husband's work, writing: "The Romantic quality, the vivacity, the freshness and humour, also the highly interesting interweaving of the violoncello and orchestra are indeed wholly ravishing, and what euphony and deep feeling one finds in all the melodic passages!"
