Bach's first version of this cantata was for solo bass voice, oboe, strings and continuo. His version for soprano and obligato flute retains the unfathomable yet life-affirming qualities of the original.
In Ich habe genug - I have enough - the singer feels through her faith, prepared for death as soon as her Saviour calls. The words of the final aria translate as: I delight in my death, ah if it were only present already! Then I will emerge from all the suffering that still binds me to the world.
