Red Hot and Recent

From New Horizons, 5:00 pm on 10 July 2016

Centring around the new tribute album to the Grateful Dead from the Red Hot label, William Dart also looks to some of the label's other releases - many of which aim to raise awareness of HIV and the AIDS epidemic. Then, taking his cue from Red Hot's ongoing support of LGBT issues, he plays a couple of tracks released in response to the Orlando nightclub shooting.

The show kicks off with tracks by Unknown Mortal Orchestra, minimalism pioneer Terry Riley and his son Gyan, Bryce Dessner, The National, and Lucius from Day of The Dead – the Red Hot organisation's recently released tribute to the Grateful Dead. Two tracks from earlier Red Hot releases feature Neneh Cherry and Liam Finn. Then hear two musical responses to the Orlando nightclub shooting – one from American musical theatre composer Jason Robert Brown and the other from Broadway for Orlando.

Our very grateful ;) thanks to Jason Robert Brown for very kindly allowing us to use his recording of 'A Song About Your Gun'.
