Five Epigrams For 12 Solo Strings (1967)

Composed for Michael Wieck and the String Orchestra of the University of Auckland, Five Epigrams is a series of inventions on an interval, a phrase, a chord, a note and a rhythm. It was composed while Tremain was Visiting Professor at the University of Michigan's School of Music in Ann Arbor.

This is an arrangement of a work for oboe d'amore and piano, written for oboist Jennifer Paull. The four pieces are a March, a Musette, a Pastoral and an Almein. Carr wrote this during a period in which he divided his time between England, Australia and New Zealand.
