Chloe Moon, born in 1952, graduated from University of Canterbury in 1973 with a BMus (hons) . From 1974 to 1977 she was a member of the Camerata Quartet. She was awarded a post-graduate scholarship by the Belgian Government for violin study at Ghent in 1977. From 1978-83 she was a part-time lecturer at the School of Music, University of Canterbury. From 1985 to date she has been a private music teacher, freelance composer, and Principal Viola for the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra. After RSI forced Chloe to retire from her music career, she began working with Cat Rescue organisations, including Cats Protection Canterbury and Persian Rescue.

Chloe wrote her Trio in 1983 for a student trio when she was lecturing in Composition at the University of Canterbury School of Music. This work was composed for Leander Fitzgerald (clarinet), Rachel Thompson (viola), and Charlotte Hayes (cello) and exhibits the technical expertise and the personal characters of the individual players.
