Sound Lounge for Friday 9 June 2017
Jazz fiends and violins
Tonight: waiting with bated breath for the finals of the Michael Hill tomorrow! John Psathas talks about his Gyftiko in the continuation of Amber read’s series on the NZ commissions for the first round for solo violin. Also, jazz-mania in the capital with the 2017 Wellington Jazz Festival – all sorts on this coming weekend AS WELL AS brand new releases on the Rattle jazz label, hot off the press. Plus in the second hour, a look at music inspired by the poets of the Beat Generation, including John Adam's Kerouac tribute The Dharma at Big Sur: and in New Music Dreams Ryan looks at a new drone soundtrack to the 1932 horror film Vampyr.
