Tonight: it’s Imani Winds touring the country until 12 October, the African-American wind quintet, with their composer/founder/flautist Valerie Coleman who is named one of the top 35 female composers in the world by the Washington Post. Tune in for her fabulous African-inspired concerto written for Imani Winds. Plus, a brand new CD out of Lyell Cresswell piano music, The Art of Black & White; we celebrate Jack Body’s birthday, tomorrow with one of his most celebrated pieces, Arum Manis, written for the Kronos Quartet; and in the second hour we continue the African theme with South African composer Kevin Volans – his beautiful first string quartet, White Man Sleeps, and brand new harpsichord music inspired by the music and rhythms of Africa.
